Genome Sciences Centre Tour
Probus has organized a tour at the Genome Sciences Centre
570 West 7th Ave, #522 on October27th at 11am.
Due to the restricted size of the facility, we are offering a tour to 11 members (plus the Probus host) on a first come, first serve basis.
In 1999 the world’s first Genome Sciences Centre (GSC) was created inside a cancer clinic. Today the GSC works with local, national and international partners on the Human Genome Project on many cancer projects and on reference genomes for a diversity of species. In 2003 the GSC was the first in the world to sequence the genome of the SARS coronavirus and by 2006 the GSC became known for large scale DNA sequencing equivalent to that of 1.25M human genomes.
Any questions, contact Loretta Woodcock.
If there is a lot of interest, we will try to run another tour in January.
