British science writer Dr. Philip Ball will come to us via Zoom from England to talk about his book Beyond Weird: Why Everything You Thought You Knew About Quantum Physics Is Different. It was named Book of the Year by Physics World in 2018 and praised for its accessible language. Philip will give us an account of the quest to come to grips with the most fundamental theory of physical reality, and to explain how its counterintuitive principles underpin the world we experience. Discoveries and experiments over the past decades have called into question the limits of space and time, cause and effect, and, ultimately, of knowledge itself. Philip says the quantum world isn't a different world. And if anything deserves to be called "weird" it is us.
